2007 Review

Ah, the annual year-in-review post. I must say that this year was quite interesting, now that I look back at what had occurred… the goods and the uglies.
Ah, the annual year-in-review post. I must say that this year was quite interesting, now that I look back at what had occurred… the goods and the uglies.
Apparently my science skills are just as bad as my math skills. Please do not ask me how I decidedly thought I had sinus infection when all along I had some sort of tonsillitis.
I mean the last time I got sick, my mother mentioned something about my tonsils in Korean, but I dismissed the term then, and apparently my sore tonsils from the previous illness has resurged back to a very miserable state.
I ended up going to the emergency room and waited three hours before I got my diagnosis, medicines, and a sick note to miss work for the next two days.
What a miserable way to end 2007.
To compute the grade point average, the number of quality points earned is divided by the number of credits attempted. To determine quality points, each letter grade is converted to a numerical grade as follows: A-4.0, B-3.0, C-2.0, D-1.0, and F-0.
The number of quality points for a course is the numerical grade multiplied by the number of credits the course carries. Thus, a grade of B in a three-credit course earns 3.0 x 3 = 9 quality points.
As an example, a student with 48 total quality points and 15 credits attempted has a grade point average of 48 divided by 15 = 3.20, which is somewhat above a B average.
This is the reason why I could never figure out my darn GPA. Anyway. Let us say that I have taken 42 classes + 2 extras that I have no clue that counts toward my GPA or not. Of the 42 classes, 37 have As, 4 of them are Bs, and 1 of them is Cs.
To break it down even further, three of the classes are only one semester hour and the grade is an A for them. In other words:
34 x 3 s.h. = A.
3 x 1 s.h. = A.
4 x 3 s.h. = B.
1 x 3 s.h. = C.
PLUS: 2 x 3 s.h. = A (for the two classes that I have no clue that counts or not).
All of this is 120 s.h. or 126 s.h. Anybody else lost, yet? I definitely can say I am.
So the question is, what the hell is my GPA? Every time I do this, I end up with very strange numbers. *sighs* Math and I so do NOT get along. Hence the single C in my college career: IN MATH!
Really, though, I guess this is an impressive record? I am not happy with the Bs and the Cs, but at least I can say that I received As in all my English classes except in EDCP 101, the pre-req for ENGL 101.
Happy Christmas to all of you.
I hope yours were all better than mine.
Well, mine was all right. I received $120 in cash from two people, along with $45 gift cards from two people, my slim PS2 from Daddy, $25 gift card and Once Upon a Time in America OST from AJ, gift and goodies from various others, and a scarf from one of my mum’s friend. Of course there were also the present from yours truly that consisted of games, books, and mangas.
…And I also got another sinus infection + flu from some unfortunate soul who’s going to meet my fist. Not to mention the monthly female thing. I am not looking forward to going back to work in my current sick state.
If it wasn’t for the last two, I’d be one happy person. Alas, someone hates me too much to not even enjoy Christmas to its fullest. I did however watch A Charlie Brown Christmas and Mickey’s Christmas Carol for the more traditional Christmas activities. AJ and I had a lovely time doing that and then we had a wonderful turkey dinner along with some Korean foods like Galbi (갈비) and then we met up with Ahmi, Sarah, and Sarah’s fiancee, Toygar, at Bless U for a couple rounds of drinks.
…Aside from that, the computer room and my bedroom is clean. Now let’s see how long that last.
Today, at 1:00am, I stayed up to complete my last two undergrad papers.
At 9:00am, I went to class expecting for a long lecture.
Thirty minutes later, we turned in our papers, and we were out of there. I whooped like a monkey and grinned like an idiot. After almost four and a half years of hell, I’m finally a college graduate.
Already, people have asked me what my plans are now that I am done with my schooling. My answer: piles. I have a huge pile of books to read, a big pile of DVDs to watch, a gigantic pile of games to play, a lengthy pile of original writings and fanfictions to jot down, a humongous pile of animes to watch, and a whale-sized pile of mangas to read.
After four and half years of never having enough time to do anything, I finally got the time to fulfil activities I’ve been wanting to do. Yes, I still have my job, but at least I don’t have to study and lug around textbooks with me any more. At least not for a while.
In the meantime, Sarah, Ahmi, and I will meet up to do our obligatory end-of-the-term celebration later this evening. Tomorrow and on Monday, I have to clean four rooms. Then AJ will spend the night here on Christmas eve, and on Christmas day, after the turkey dinner, we shall all meet up for one last time before Ahmi ships herself off to Japan, and we will hopefully even meet Sarah’s fiancée.
While all of this is going on, I shall be waiting impatiently to get my final grades for my last two classes. I already received an “A” in Shakespeare. Now to wait for Modern Poetry and Asian Philosophy.
BUT HOLY CRAP. I AM DONE. I AM FREE!!!!!!!!!! (and it’s a frightening thought in a way, too, despite how wonderful and liberating I feel.)
