School-ness

March 30, 2006 @ 7:31 pm (Permalink)

I decided to apply to a scholarship that was due March 25th. Well, I had everything completed except for having my transcripts from UMUC to prove I am a student there. I emailed and sent a signed request form around March 7, saying in the email I need it by the 25th. I emailed again on the 15th to see if they received the darn request form. They emailed back on the 16th and said it would be mailed out within 72 hours.

…Right. I did not get it by the 24th. So on the 25th, I went to the organisation who was sponsoring it, and explained my dillemma. Thankfully, they were sympathetic to my case, and since they were still going to accept mail-in scholarship apps, they said I had another week or two to submit the transcript in.

Well, by yesterday, I still hadn’t gotten the darn transcripts. Fed up, I went to the office today and they called Yokota, where the UMUC Asia Main HQ was, and I talked to the dude in charge of the transcripts. He said that they had mailed it out on the 20th, and by military shipping, I should have gotten that by the 28th at the latest. I didn’t. Then he said that since I am only needing this for a scholarship, he’ll fax an unofficial transcript to here with a letter showing that they had dropped the official one on the 20th.

First time faxing it, it didn’t get through. Second time, after someone called and bugged them again, it went through. *sighs* What an ordeal just to apply for my first scholarship. UGH! And the mail still didn’t bring my darn official transcripts! Grrr…

And now they delayed the term!!! Damn. x_x;; Oh well…one Friday down the drain of ew…Math.

This is what I signed up this term:

* Math 107 “College Algebra” – Mon/Wed 6:30pm ~ 9:30pm @YONGSAN.
* Pscyh 321 “Social Psychology” – Saturday 9:00 am ~ 4:00pm @ OSAN.
* CMST 386 “Internet: An Advanced Guide” – ONLINE.

So I shall be commuting to Osan every Saturday…catch the bus by 7, get there by 8:10, mope around till 9…actually find out where the class is going to be so will hunt the building down. I am unfamiliar with Osan Air Base layout. All I know is that the big BX is near the bus stop, and I think their Ed Centre is near it too. And then I catch the 4:20 bus back to Yongsan and arrive at 5:30. Oi… thank goodness I can sleep on the bus. Should I carry a pillow with me? XD

Ugh… College Algebra is gonna be Algebra Hell for me. Pscyh should be fun since the teacher is the same teacher I had in Psych 100. Lastly, CMST is the continuation of the other online class I took. Only instead of basic webpage making, I will be learning CSS (YAY!), JavaScript, and DHTML (NOOOOO!).

This term shall be interesting.

Back to the Future and an Atheist Article

March 25, 2006 @ 9:12 pm (Permalink)

I spent the night at Sarah’s place, and we had a Back to the Future marathon. I cannot believe I did not see this earlier. Hahaha. Michael J. Fox is so damn cute. XD I quite enjoyed it though. I loved the Doc…although my favourite minor character was Goldie Wilson. Sarah and I agreed that we wished he had more of a screen time than he had.

Atheists identified as America’s most distrusted minority, according to new U of M study.

So much for TOLERANCE. *scowls* I am so insulted by this fact that Atheist are the scum of the minority groups now. Okay, only 2,000 people contributing the survey doesn’t talk about all of the people in the United States, but still, just knowing that there are people out there who distrust and dislike people just because they don’t believe in God or someone of a higher being automatically makes them bad? Grrrrrrrrr.

I’m an Atheist. Have been since the sixth grade and always will be. Even if there is proof that some supernatural beings with powers to crush the Earth exist, I don’t care. He or she is just not someone I’d look up. I like being an Atheist. I like that freedom where I don’t have to have an extra baggage in my head telling me that if I do something, God or Goddess will not like me for it. I like to make my own choices based on my judgement. What is so wrong about that? Oh, wait, because I don’t follow the teachings of Jesus Christ or Allah or whoever, I am labelled as evil and corrupted. There we go.

Great logic some people have. *sighs* Oh well. I think tolerance is going to die away one day. Bah. Pessimism and cynicism is my best friend.

Completed Tales of Symphonia

March 20, 2006 @ 9:56 pm (Permalink)

I finally beat Tales of Symphonia. Now it’s not necessarily 100% beaten since I didn’t bother with the rest of many side quests in the game, but I got the ending. Woot!! That last boss was such a bitch to beat! Ah well… thank goodness for Raine and my healing items.

Now to restart the game and take it a different path. ^_^

Le Portrait de Petite Cossette

March 15, 2006 @ 5:20 pm (Permalink)

Along with King of Bandit Jing OVA (nothing special from this anime other than that Jing was a cutie), I just finished Le Portrait de Petite Cossette. Cossette is a real interesting three episodes anime.

Basic plot line is that Kurahashi Eiri finds this Venetian wine glass which holds the soul of a murdered little beauty named Cossette d’Auvergne. Eiri talks to Cossette through the glass, and he discovers Cossette’s history and is soon helping her avenge her killer in a way.

The animation is nicely drawn and displayed. For some reason or another, the style reminded me of Gankutsuou. The storyline, artworks, and the music all reminds me of Gothic-ness. Jen, I think you would like this. I kept thinking of you when I watched this.

What I liked the best about this anime was the music. The music was by Kajiura Yuki, the same person who did the dot Hack series’ music. I so want the soundtrack now. Some of the songs had this similar feel and texture of the Baroque period. Then again, a lot of gothic type entertainment seems to do use Baroque music.

Now that I’ve seen those two animes, now I gotta get my arse to watch the followings:

- Future Boy Conan (26 eps)
- Gankutsuou (24 eps)
- Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne (44 eps)
- Kyou Kara Maou (70+ eps)
- Last Exile (26 eps)
- Meine Liebe (13 eps)
- Meine Liebe Wieder (13 eps)
- Mirage of Blaze + OVA (16 eps)
- Rose of Versailles (40 eps)
- Tactics (25 eps)
- Tsubasa Chronicles (26 eps)
- X TV (25 eps)

Gahhhhhh… Fun fun XD
