Mallrats

Kevin Smith is one fucking hilarious genius!

Before I seen this, the only other Kevin Smith’s movie I saw was Dogma. I thoroughly enjoyed that and then when I saw that this was another one of his movie, I watched it eagerly.

In this one we have two college students, just bumming around at the mall after being dumped by their girlfriends. Brodie (Jason Lee) was a huge comic fan and ah, is declared “retard” by his girlfriend Rene. T.S. (Jeremy London) is more serious, but is ah rather dense with some situation but he definitely love Brandi. In fact both of them loves their girlfriend very much but only one of them realise it and admits it.

So they bum around the mall. Meet up their friends such as Jay and Silent Bob (yay!), Tricia who is a 15 year old girl who is writing a book on the Male Sexual urges or something and does experimentation with men from about 16 to 35, Gwen who is T.S’ ex and other whacky character. Situations after situations, they decides to win their girlfriends back.

Brandi was being auctioned off on her father’s show (who by the way, the father HATES T.S.) so the two friends get rid of two of the contestants and take their place. Brodie doesn’t want Shannon (Ben Affleck) to take his girlfriend and wanted to prove to people that Shannon was truly an asshole, asks Tricia to get a tape she had taped while she and Shannon was being “intimate”.

This film is really a silly film, but the comedy will make you laugh and stick through it. The chemistry between the two friends are really funny to watch. It might not be an Academy Award type of film, but it’s still good enough to watch it and enjoy it as well.

Spirited Away

August 31, 2003 @ 5:51 pm

What a great Hayao Miyazaki’s film! I can finally understand the hype about that movie and am real glad that it won the Academy Award and those other prestigious awards.

I had only seen couple of Hayao Miyazak’s film and one of them was Kiki’s Delivery Service. The movie, Spirited Away is so much better.

In this anime movie, we start off with Chihiro, a typical, apathetic, sullen, ten year-old girl. She along with her parents were moving to a new house and they were driving there. The father took a wrong turn and they stopped in front of this tunnel. The parents decided to check it out, but Chihiro wasn’t too keen about that. She followed in the end.

On the other side they came upon a grassy area. The father said that this had to be one of those theme’s park that ended up closing in the 90s. They walked a bit further on and walked up these stairs. They came upon a street full of restaurants and Chihiro’s parents started to eat there. Chihiro, herself, wandered on and met this guy named Haku. Haku told her to get out of here before it gets dark and that he’d distract the others. Chihiro ran to get her parents but they were turned to pigs unfortunately.

Chihiro tried to escape to the way she came through, but below the stairs, it was all water now. So she was trapped in the Spirit World. She was forced to work for Yubaba, a witch that owned that bath house where Gods came to relax off. With the help of Haku, she tries to find ways to save her parents and to go back to her world. She also sold her name off to Yubaba and got the name of Sen. The contract which anyone signs for Yubaba enforces them to sell their name and not remember it as time goes on, but thanks to Haku, who we find out later is an apprentice to Yubaba, keeps calling Sen, Chihiro.

Through her adventures, she transforms from an apathetic girl to a young, courageous lady. This anime really is Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpiece. The sounds, the score, the animation all comes together to form a wonderful anime that will stick with us watchers as time goes by. The ending song is really gorgeous as well. I am in love with it.

So all in all, this anime is worth your money. I am thinking about buying my own copy now! Thanks Jen for letting me borrow it!

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

August 30, 2003 @ 8:11 pm

What can I say? I finally saw it on dvd at home and now I regret not seeing the movie earlier when it came out in theatres.

But I absolutely loved it. This movie, in my opinion, is so much better than the first one. Granted the first one follows the book a bit more, but I frankly could careless. Everything about it made the minor details go invisible for me.

Like the first one, the sceneries and the details in this movie went beyond my expectations. The city of Edoras, Helm’s Deep, Fangorn Forest, The Dead Marshes (?), and etc was just gorgeous. Edoras was really a magnificent city and Helm’s Deep… Troy anyone? It seriously reminded me of Troy when I saw Helm’s Deep and how they were saying it’s never been taken by enemy forces yet. But it sure almost was taken this time. Thank god for Gandalf going to get Eowyn’s brother. Gandalf. I’m glad he came back. The scene where he continued to fight the monster was amazing. He still rocks. And I still think Ian McKellan could play Dumbledore much better. But that’s just me.

Oh god the characters, I actually respect Legolas a lot more than I did in the first one. But damn! Slash anyones? Frodo/Sam, Legolas/Gimli, Legolas/Aragorn, Aragorn/Boromir, Aragorn/Frodo, and etc etc. Good god! This movie made my head go nuts with all it’s slash potentials. Everytime I saw Sam and Frodo talk to one another or was arguing, I kept thinking they were going to go into a mad snogging festive. And that one serious scene with Merry and Pippin, I kept seeing Merry take Pippin’s face in his hand and oh dear…

Aragorn. He still rocks. He’s still my favourite. He always rule. And I nearly had a heart attack when I saw him go over the cliff. I was like NOOOOOOOOO. Good god that man is a lucky bastard though LOL.

Wormtongue. Like couple of my livejournal friend stated, I can so see the man who played Wormtongue play Severus Snape from HP. I can see it. That was just perfect. Eowyn didn’t annoy me surprisingly. Her brother was really shaggable. Haldir was awesome and after seeing Aragorn give Haldir a hug, I sense Aragorn/Haldir stories coming up!

Oh god, I can’t stop gushing about this movie.

Oh and Gollum. Wow. He really is a pathetic, pitiful character. When he was having that double dialouge with himself, I was at first lost, but when I caught on, I thought that was highly clever. Poor Gollum or Smeagol or whatever the fuck we call him. And Faramir… WHAT is up with the men of Gondor. They sure are obsessed with the damn ring LOL. But later when Sam threw the whole Boromir thing back in his face, I was laughing. That woke him up big time.

The Ents… those were COOL! I was grinning madly when I saw them go after Isengard. The look on Saruman’s face when he saw those horde of Ents destroying the tower was funny.

Oh and the Oluiphant. That’s clever… a derisive of Elephant with many many tusks.

All in all, that movie was wonderful. I can’t wait till the third one now. Peter Jackson really is doing a terrific job with the movies, unlike some directors I will not mentions! ^_^

WTF?!

August 30, 2003 @ 12:13 pm

Something screwed up my Greymatter…

I login and first thing it said to run the Diagnostic and Repair crap. And I am like what the… I clicked on Edit Entries and it tells me I had no entries whatsoever. After I blinked myself to oblivion, I checked everything and all my files were still uploaded. So I ran all that and then I noticed that the entry below, I had 45 comments of repeatedly the same thing. And I was wondering if that caused it. Or did Greymatter just went bloopy on me… stupid POS.

Great. And I wanted to blog about something. Oh yeah. I saw Mars. I’m actually in shock about that still. Korea, the place you cannot see the Orion’s Belt, was able to see Mars. Wow. Jen and I saw it outside of Navy Club and she was like, “Look, there’s Mars.” And I was like “WHERE?!” Once she located it for me I was in awed. Wow. This is like such an astronomer’s dream. :3 Yeah I wanted to be an astronomer or an astronaut when younger. Planets and stars always fascinated me ^_^.

But enough of that. I got a damn blog to fix.
