May 30, 2003 @ 4:36 pm (Permalink)

I failed my CCNA. That’s all I’m going to say. x_x;; I stink.

At least this week is finally over. 4 essays, 5 exams, 2 projects, and bunch of other shite happened this week and the end couldn’t have come soon enough.

But yeah… Oh and I got The Pianist on dvd couple days ago and I watched it. Check out my review of that movie at Cineblog.

The Pianist

May 30, 2003 @ 4:29 pm (Permalink)

There are only three words that comes into my mind to describe this movie. They are: Brilliant, Poignant, and Realistic.

Maybe I am biased toward the movie because it focuses on my favourite subject of history, and that happens to be the Holocaust. But this movie was just wonderful. Not only was it about the Holocaust, but it also infused music into it. *grins* That’ was an added plus!

In this particular movie, we start off with Wladyslaw Szpilman, a well-known pianist in Poland, playing for this one radio channel. It was September 1, 1939, and was the beginning of WW2 in Europe when Germany invaded Poland. Szpilman is from Warsaw and that’s where the course of the movie will take place. The movie was filmed by what Szpilman himself has seen during the war. Well he goes back home to his family. The mother wanted to move out, but the Father was optimsitic… and then they were optimistic once they heard that England and France were attacking war on Germnay. It’s a shame that their optimisim was torn down in the future.

Later on, after many stupid laws made by the Nazis, Szpilman and his family was than transported to the Warsaw ghetto with 30,000 other Jewish people. Life in the ghetto went on as normal as possible. Szpilmam raised little money by playing piano in a cafe there. To avoid deportation, the entire family got a working certificate. In the end, that didn’t help. The rest of the family, minus Szpilman, and thousands of other Jews were deported to Treblinka in a massive deportation. Szpilman, after working there for a while, got others to help him to get out. He succeeded and were hidden and helped by Polish people. And in the end, he survived… with the help of even a sympathetic Nazi, ironically.

You know what was freaky? I thought that this movie was a Historical Fiction type of thing, but when I found out it wasn’t and that Szpilman DID exist, I was dumbfounded. This movie, in a way seemed more realistic to Schindler’s List. Maybe it was the fact that the director of this movie himself was a Warsaw Ghetto survivor made it more personal and heart-breaking. Either way, both movies were good.

Adrien Brody really was a good actor. Not too mention, he was and still is fucking sexy. :3. But that’s beside the point. I thought he did a wonderful job delivering his part in the movie. I can see why he’d win the Academy. Of course that view might change once I see the other nominees movie, but so far my vote stands with him.

*shivers* This movie really made me cry and damn… the devastation for the city of Warsaw was horrible. It’s amazing what has happened to our course in history. This reminded me of Dresden or from what I’ve read of it. Oi… but I think what really got me was the fact that only twenty, TWENTY, Jews survived in Warsaw by the end of the war and Szpilman was one of them… It was simply amazing how anyone could survive through that times of terror and nightmare. Human history is definitely scarred… forever in time.

Shorthands Amongst Asians

May 25, 2003 @ 11:27 am (Permalink)

Have I ever mentioned I hate how Asian-Americans seems to be the most to use their “famous” shorthands? I sure fucking do hate them.

- That sux
- Kool
- I’m a kyootie.
- U r mah lyfe.

Okay those are just some of the examples. >_< ;; I don't know why, but I just find them annoying. And then of course half of them uses sticky caps, which makes it even worse! I'm just odd. I can't even stand it when people I chat with use those repeatedly. I mean sure I use some shortands, but not enough like that. Is it that hard to type out the entire word? I mean I forced myself to get over most shorthands so I don't get in the habit of typing like that in schoolworks.

I just find it annoying and weird that it’s mainly the Asian-Americans that does that. Yeah sure, I’m Asian-American, but I try to type properly… it’s not that hard really. *sighs* No offence to any of my friends out there that are Asian-Americans, but really, it’s just one of my pet peeves. Hell even other people that aren’t Asian-Americans does that and it still bugs me. Oi…

AND WTF! When I tell someone I’m busy, can’t they take the hint that I am ACTUALLY busy for a change? *fumes*

Okay I am in a very bad mood. I think it has to do with all the stress I’m getting from schoolworks. I’ll shut up now. No use in ranting like a bitch who just lost her mum or something. Bleh.

Banned Books

May 21, 2003 @ 10:10 pm (Permalink)

After not being able to find the gay/lesbian fictions at the library of this stupid Army Post, I remembered Ms. Pell telling my english class about the banned book list on the net. I found one, and lo and behold here is the link:

Banned aka “Challenged” Books List

I cannot believe this list LOL. This is ludicrous! I knew HP was on there, but for heaven’s sake! Some of the books I’ve read as a child is on there! Man… the stupidity and narrow-mindedness of human beings never cease to amaze me. *shakes head* Stupid censorship. And stupid people for taking away books from people that WOULD like to read them.

*scowls* Of course homosexuality is one of the issues in reasons why people want them banned, so of course I will not find any homosexuality fiction in the libraries around me. Or the stores. Dangit. And I want to read them! I don’t want to order them yet… I’d like to read them first *sighs* Oi. Such is life…

*roll eyes* What’s next on that banned book list? The Grimms Brothers’ Tales? I mean come on. Those got evil witches and blah blah as well, so let’s ban that as well. *scoffs* Morons… stupid, ignorant, single-minded, morons.

I’m so glad I had parents that didn’t care what I was reading as long as it wasn’t all that bad. And now I’m cranky. Great. I’m fired-up. Goody. Whatever. I’ll still read banned books. Hell half of the books I’ve read that are banned were reading assignments. *snickers* Glad my school isn’t censorers.

Prom and After Prom 2003

May 18, 2003 @ 6:45 pm (Permalink)

Yes now for my prom entry.

I met up with Lori at 11:30 to go and get my hair and make up done. The end results: I loved it. Sandy, the hair/makeup artist, definitely knew what she was doing. I’ve opted to do an upstyle and the way she did it… I knew I wouldn’t have been able to do that myself. ^_^ But yeah that cost me 50,000. It was originally 70,000 but mum asked me to call her and see if she could give me a discount and so she did.

Then Jeff, Jenny, Jake, and I all met up at Dragon about 5:30ish. The 3 Js and a T as I would like to call my prom groupie last night. We walked out the main gate and caught a cab and went to the Marriot Hotel. That was one nice hotel. We waited and then registered.

This was our 5-course dinner:

Shrimp Cocktail
French Onion Soup
Caesar Salad
Chicken Cordon Bleu, Beef Tenderloin, or Teriyaki Salmon (In this case I got the chicken)
Apple Pie A La Mode
* Coffee or Tea

Our drink was water. In order to get any other drinks, like Pepsi or Seven-upish type drinks, we had to pay 6,000 won or about 5 bucks to get a drink in a small glass. I got some, but only because Jeff, my date, got it for me. Thank you, Jeff!

But yeah… they did everything at the beginning, like announcing the prom court, so we had nothing to anticipate after dinner, but to dance. x_x;; We girls got this prom gift bag thing. We got an ugly wine glass (it sure is uglier compared to the other two I got), and a photograph keychain. I also took the dinner menu off the table with me. XD I liked the menu so I was like, eh, why not take one.

We all decided to leave at about 10:30. It just became so boring, that we couldn’t endure it anymore. So we caught a cab, came to my house, I changed out of my dress (oh and I saw someone else wear the same dress as me, but I didn’t care.) and changed into something more comfortable. Then we called up Lori and went to Itaewon. We also met up with Jonathan, Jonathan’s sister, and John.

We first stopped by Bless U. I got Lori a Corona and I got myself a Chappalla. Jenny got Rum and that tasted awful and Jeff got Scotch and that tasted a wee bit better, but nevertheless still nasty. Then we decided to go to King’s Club. That’s a major club for all us foreigners down here and holy crap. Lori goes there almost every weekend and well.. I thought I’d like it, but fuck no. That place scared me. LITERALLY scared me. It was too wild, too loud, too crowded, and the idea of being with all those guys… well scared me. Okay so I AM still innocent >_< ;;.

Jenn and Jeff left, and I was either stuck with Jake and Jonathan (the other two left to meander), or stay there with Lori. I opted to just go with them, and after going all the way down to where I used to live I just came back to King’s and got me a Long Island Ice Tea. That drink isn’t so bad, but I still don’t like that place.

Then curfew came along at 1 AM, and Lori wanted to go to the Underground on Post. It was another club, similar to King’s but slightly less crowded, but nevertheless still the same. I saw Lori get herself a Corona, a Long Island Ice tea for her and me and then diss the guy bad. That was kinda cool. I should learn that method of getting drinks. XD. After that club closed, we waited for a guy named Miles. He was a friend of Lori who always gave her a ride home and he works at the Underground. So we got a ride, and he came up with us to her house.

The next 3 hours, Miles and I cleaned the house, and we drunk sat Lori. She was drunk off her ass and oh man, after seeing that, I do NOT want to get that drunk. She called Quincy and his sister like so many times that I lost count. But yeah… I didn’t go to bed till about 6 this morning. I finally gave up and she was about to head off to bed anyways. So I slept and woke up at 12ish. I am dogtired now…thank god tomorrow is the “Official” senior skip day, so I can sleep in and use that day as an advantage to hang out with Jenny who’s leaving this week.

Speaking of leaving… >_<;; All my girl friends are leaving in the following next few months!! Jen, Lori, Jenny, Eyvonne, Gina… damn. I am gonna be all alone… Poor me. But anyways that was my lovely prom night. Now I’m gonna crash soon.
